“The first book to capture my attention: Vic Reid's New Day. Here I saw my face in print for the first time.  I heard my language; I saw my trees; I saw my mountainside, even my hopes. I was ten.

Favourite author/book: Must be Agatha Christie. I can't say what title, for I read her without looking at the title and therefore re-read unintentionally. But I do intentionally re-read. The one I re-read intentionally most is Ten little Niggers/Indians. Perhaps this is my favourite.”

Erna Brodber is a Jamaican sociologist, social activist and author of four acclaimed novels including Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home (1980) and The Rainmaker’s Mistake (2007). She is a featured writer for Bim Litfest 2014 and conducts a fiction Master class at the National Library and reads at the Scralet Lounge, Waterfront Café, Bridgetown, on Saturday, May 17.
