Vincentian-born lecturer and poet Philip Nanton launches his book Island Voices from St. Christopher & The Barracudas this weekend.

This is the latest manifestation of Nanton’s Island Voices, which previously appeared in CD-form, as live performance, and multi-media exhibit.

Now they have been captured in full living colour in a beautifully produced publication by Papillote Press of Dominica, complete with photographs of a specially-produced artwork by fellow Vincentian, Caroline ‘booops’ Sardine.

The “voices” take the form of dramatic monologues and dialogues all set on the imaginary island state of St Christopher and the Barracudas. Among those wayward, revealing and often hilarious voices are the taxi driver, coconut water vendor, bar owner, lawyer, church committee member—and one we hope to hear on Saturday night—local radio presenter reporting on an plane that has overshot the runway and crashed into a supermarket next to the airport. You just got to hear that one. And now that the book is out, read it, too.

Island Voices the book will be launched at the Waterfront Café, RedMD
