ArtsEtc is deeply saddened to learn of the passing on January 12 of dear friend and collaborator Thomas Armstrong, after a brave struggle with cancer.
We first met Tom in 2009 shortly after he won second prize at the Frank Collymore Literary Endowment Awards for his novel Of Water and Rock. The book also garnered the George Lamming Award at NIFCA in 2010. ArtsEtc went on to host the Barbadian book launch for him in 2011 and to collaborate with him in the research of Barbadian and West Indian authors.
Tom had just recently completed research into the life and work of obscure Barbadian novelist Geoffrey Drayton and was working on a second novel. He was also included in ArtsEtc’s 2012 Independence Reading List.
Our sincere condolences to his wife, Denise, and children John and Anne-Marie.
