ARTSETC tips its hat to the writers who gained favour with the judges at the 15th Annual Frank Collymore Literary Awards held in Bridgetown at the beginning of the year.
Second prize went to Carlyon Blackman for her collection of poems titled (by the committee) Ars Poetica. Tying for third place were playwright Glenville Lovell with his novel The Assassination of Luis Posada, and first-timer Brian Franklyn also with a novel, a speculative fiction entitled Iridium.
Allison Cadogan earned the Prime Minister’s Award for her novel A Winter of Contentment.
No first prize was awarded this year to any of the manuscript submissions.
Guest speaker was Brit-born Bajan poet Dorothea Smartt, who spoke evocatively on the theme “Poetry is not a Luxury.”
Indeed, it is not.
Best of luck to all our writers for the coming year of competition and publishing opportunity both here and abroad. Here’s to aspiring to produce the very finest words and to never giving up. May you knock judges’ socks off everywhere..
